The main floor contains
a master wing (master
bedroom,
master bath, study, and
another full bath), the grand
public areas of the home
(Great Room, Dining Area, Kitchen,
and Breakfast Room), and the service
areas (storage, pantries,
a stone floored-half bath that also
opens to the decks, and large laundry
facility). The entry of the home
features stone floors and views of
the Great Room to the right and Breakfast
Room to the left. The entry features
an antique secretary highboy and
delightful double bear, carved Bavarian
sitting bench.
Great Room
The
Great Room is truly that. With huge wood
beams at 14 feet, the ceiling
eventually soars to 24 feet,
all wooden,
and is simply beautiful. Hours
can be spent studying its geometries.
Or the huge dry stack stone fireplace
with a wood mantel that weighed
over a ton. The room is divided
into sitting and dining areas.
This formal dining area has a
round glass table with seating for
6. The Great Room has huge glass
walls on both of the long sides,
one opening to the entry court and
one with killer lake views. The upstairs
landing overlooks the Great Room, one
of the most dramatic views in the home.
The room is also home to two
bears,
mom 5.5 feet tall and her cub, hanging
from the chess area railing, both made
from grape vines. This is perfect room
for dinner and a huge fire afterwards.
And, now that it was mentioned, the
area gets cool at night, even when
Atlanta is 99 degrees. Many a fire
have been built in July in this house.....
Kitchen and Breakfast
Room

The Kitchen
and Breakfast Room are some
of the most popular rooms of the house.
With seating for 12-15 people, another
beautiful fireplace, and the draw of
the hearth of the home, this Kitchen
attracts a crowd. The Kitchen has every
conceivable feature, a huge Sub-Zero
refrigerator, 2 large ovens, 4 burners,
ice maker, compactor, 2 sinks with disposal,
separate sink in the liquor bar behind
hidden pocket doors, dishwasher, double
coffee maker, spice drawer, crisper,
bar stool seating for 4, ceiling fan,
3 sets of flatware to choose
from,
hundreds of cookbooks, and every
utensil you can name. Oh, and the cook’s
station by the double sink? BEST view
in the house! A portable grill is outside.
The Breakfast Room has a double
height ceiling, creating a great view
from the upstairs landing and chess table.
Another round dining table for 4, a small
TV to watch the satellite, house stereo
master controls, and 2 incredible blue
leather chairs that remarkably recline,
with foot rests. Right in front of the
fire, these chairs are very comfortable.
Master Bedroom and Bath

The Master Wing is
over 1,000 square feet of seclusion.
Past the Great Room, behind a hidden
pocket door, is the Master Suite, with
intimate office (access to private
deck), bedroom, bath with walk-in shower,
Jacuzzi tub under a huge, very private
window, heated towel bars, walk-in
closet, skylight, and more. The bed
is
King
sized, with a double wedding
band, hand-made quilt. The Bedroom
has windows on both sides (allowing
for great cross breezes all year),
a tray ceiling, a ceiling fan,
TV and DVD, and the best part,
the sounds of the cove waterfall.
Study

This small room
is a house favorite. Almost always
when the house has gotten quiet, head
to the Study, and
a hot conversation will be at hand.
The master wing private deck is off
this room. For those who cannot stand
to be away from be away from email,
there is a satellite hi-speed connection
to the Internet.
Decks
We come to these
mountains to experience them. There
is no better way than to spend time
on these expansive decks. Wrapping
around the public spaces of the home,
the decks offer every room access
to outdoors. This deck has two main
seating areas; one off the Breakfast
Room, seen on the left below, is
for sunning and group conversations,
while the other, seen to the right,
is for eating and can easily seat
14-16 people. The eating area has
a ceiling fan and stereo speakers.
This upper deck provides access to
the downstairs decks, where there
is a jacuzzi.
